Every year people make resolutions and drop them after a few weeks or months. After going through a rough year (2020), many people started 2021 full of hope for a better year with amazing resolutions. This year, I would love for you to reach your goals. I started this year by hosting a private bootcamp on planning for goal achievement. We reviewed goal planning, personal strength and passion, weaknesses and limiting beliefs and we ended up creating a visual blueprint of concrete actions to reach goals. This bootcamp inspired me to write this month’s article. I want to help as many people as possible to work on their resolutions and reach their goals. In a time where struggles are at a historical high, having something to look forward to and successes to celebrate is more important than ever. You chose your resolutions three months ago, now what? Here is a three-phases process to help you reignite your motivation to reach your goals.

Phase one:

Ask yourself the three following questions and write down your answers.

1-What is your resolution/goal?

2-Why did you choose this resolution/goal?

3-What will be the positive outcome in reaching your goals? List all the benefits.

The purpose of phase one is to bring back the excitement you felt a few months ago. You may have noticed that at the beginning you were pumped to work toward your goal and as time went by your level of excitement dropped. Now, it is time for you to remember why you picked this goal and to find the motivation to crush your goals.

Phase two:

Look at what you have done so far. How much closer to your goal are you? List all the actions you have successfully taken so far. As an example, if you had the goal to lose 20lbs: Did you lose any weight yet? If not, did you make changes to your nutrition? Did you start to finally hit the daily number of steps you wanted?

Review the actions you have taken. Next to your actions, write down the results. Do these actions bring you closer to your goal? Some actions you may have taken may not benefit you or bring you closer to your goal. Adjust your actions to your current situation. Think outside of the box. There are so many different paths you can take to reach a goal. If it did not work, it doesn’t mean that it is unachievable, it means you took the wrong way. As Google would say: Route recalculating!

Make a new plan! It is never too late to reassess your strategy. The actions you take toward reaching your goal are the main factors in deciding if you will succeed or not. The time you spend planning how you will reach your goals will pay off in the future.

Phase three:

Visualize the end goal. Everyday close your eyes and visualize how it will look when you reach your goal. Concentrate and experience the feelings you will have once you have reached your goal. Meditation is a great way to do this. There are many free guided meditations available on YouTube.

Use the resources you have to help you move closer to your goal. Reach out to people you know that can help you. We often underestimate how we can learn from our friends and family members. When the road gets rough, you will need all the support you can get to keep your eyes on the prize and stay motivated.

Celebrate your successes along the way. The path to reaching your goal is made up of little gains. By celebrating each of these gains, you are motivating yourself to continue to fight for what you really want.

As you are taking on the second quarter of 2021, don’t let the three first months deflate your commitment to your resolutions. Remember that in a moment of hope for a brighter future, you picked this particular resolution. It means that it is important for you. I wish you the best, and if you need help navigating this challenging times please reach out. You are not alone; Coach Kim has your back!
